Good to know

To offer fast and reliable help, we would like you to check the following:

  • What version of AVIX are you running? TIP: You can see the version in the upper left corner when AVIX is running.
  • If you get an error message – What does it say? TIP: Make a screen dump.
  • How did the error occur? We call it reproducibility when troubleshooting. What operations did you perform in AVIX when the error occurred?
  • AVIX log-file. In the AVIX installation folder (normally c:\program\AVIX) there’s a folder named “logs”, in this folder you find the AVIX log-file: AVIX4Logfile.log. Make a copy of it, if asked for, you can e-mail it to support.

Automatic error report

Using AVIX 4.6.9 and later it is possible to send a support issue directly from AVIX.

AVIX will automatically collect the log-files needed and open your e-mail client. All you have to do is explain the issue and send the mail.

In AVIX go to “Help” and select “Report application problem”.

What is AVIX and how can it help my company?

AVIX is a platform for planning, managing, and optimizing industrial operations. It helps you structure and analyze production data so you can improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and make better decisions based on real facts instead of guesswork.

How do I get started with the software for the first time?

AVIX is easy to use and at the same time flexible to support many different use cases and scenarios. Contact us to arrange a pilot project to get help from experts to figure out how AVIX works for your organization.

Is there training available for new users?

Yes — we offer training for both new and experienced users. That includes onboarding sessions, workshops, and documentation to help your team get comfortable quickly. Training can be done on site or via web, depending on the scope.

Do I have to buy the whole suite, or can I start with one module?

You can absolutely start small. AVIX is modular, so you can begin with the parts you need today and expand later as your needs grow.

Where can I find the latest version of the software to download?

The latest version is available through the AVIX customer portal or directly from your AVIX contact. If you’re unsure where to get it, just reach out to support and we’ll point you in the right direction.

What are the camera requirements?

It depends on recording length. Short recordings (<60 min) can have simpler setups, while longer recordings (>60 min) require better battery or external power.

Many cameras and mobile phones can be set to use H.264 instead of H.265 (HEVC). H.264 works directly in AVIX, while H.265 requires conversion to H.264 before it can be used.

To ensure the simplest possible video handling, the following applies:

  • Video files should be in .MP4 format with H.264 encoding for best compatibility and performance.
  • Other formats, such as .MPEG and .AVI, may work but have more variable compatibility. Camera-specific file formats and HD-resolution videos may require conversion.
  • The camera should be capable of a maximum bitrate of 3–4 Mbit/s.
  • The camera should be capable of a resolution up to 1280×720. Higher resolutions are not recommended, as this requires more computing power and results in larger video files.
  • Battery life should be approximately 1 hour under normal conditions. For longer processes, a larger battery and/or external power supply is required.
What camera do you recommend?

We recommend Panasonic HC-V380 (or older models) and Canon Legria HF R806. These cameras can be complemented with an extra-large battery.

We also recommend using an action camera, like GoPro. They are easy to use and work well. Some older versions of the GoPro create hidden .LRV files (Low Resolution Video). These files can be renamed to .MP4 and then used in AVIX. The resolution and video size are well-suited for AVIX. Only cameras with wi-fi have this option.

It’s also possible to use your phone to record, but they often record in too high a resolution. Videos with high resolutions create larger files and require more processing power without added value in AVIX. To avoid this - use an app that allows recordings in lower resolution, such as LightVid.

Where is AVIX Method?

The Method perspective is always accessible from the button [Method] in AVIX in the upper right corner. If there is no valid license the Method perspective is not enabled.

Where do I add a film?

Create a Process Task In the Process Task editor, click and select movie.

Where can I add production aids?

You can add a tool in the Tools tab, which is located in the Method module by default next to the Method Tree.

How do I add a film?

Create a Process Task In the Process Task editor, click and select movie.

How can I create a product?

A product structure is built up in the Parts tab, which is located in the Method module by default next to the Method Tree.
Refer to “Extended parts handling” in the “AVIX User Manual” available from the “help” menu in AVIX.

How can I create a report/work instruction?

Reports/work instructions are created by generating a printout, the range of available reports depending on which object or level in the structure tree is selected. Refer to “creating work instruction” and “generating reports” in the “AVIX4 User Manual” available from the “help” menu in AVIX.

How do I convert a video?

Sometimes video files need to be converted. It can be due to:

  1. The video format is not supported by AVIX
  2. The video format is too big to handle in an easy way
  3. Several separate movie files should be merged into one big file.

We recommend one of the following softwares:

Any Video Converter (can also merge movies):

Instructions Any Video Converter

Handbrake:

Instructions Handbrake

OpenShot (for simple video editing)
https://www.openshot.org/

What should I do if my video files aren't working correctly in the software?

Start by checking that the video format is supported and that the file can be opened outside AVIX.

Also check if the file path to the film file correct.
If you know that film files have been moved, you can set a standard search path in AVIX, refer to “Folder structure and search path” in the “AVIX4 User Manual” available from the “help” menu in AVIX.

Why aren't my latest setting changes showing up?

If your latest setting changes are not appearing, it is likely because the AVIX server needs to be restarted.

This is a required step whenever you make changes to configuration files, such as those for E-mail or MS Teams notifications, to ensure the new settings are applied.

I have a closed a tab/window and cannot find it again, how can I open it again?

You can click the button “Reset current perspective” at the top of the screen at any time to restore the perspective to its initial layout. If you have minimized a view, then it is in the left margin and you can restore it from there.

I cannot find a suitable report/work instruction.

We are gradually developing new reports/work instructions in AVIX, please contact Solme AB for further information about custom made reports.

Where can I find video guides if I get stuck?

Video guides, tutorials, and other helpful resources are available through the AVIX support portal and learning materials provided by AVIX.

What should I do if video playback is not smooth? (Playback settings)

Try switching between “Software based” and “Hardware accelerated” in Preferences - Movie Player settings. Depending on your computer’s configuration, one of these is the most suitable.

What should I do if video playback is not smooth? (Default paths)

If the video is saved to a network with limited bandwidth and you’re experiencing problems with the video, use the feature “default search paths” in the AVIX settings. You can set multiple search paths to videos/documents and prioritize which one to use first. Videos should always be saved to a network (networks normally have back-up routines), but the movies can also be stored on your computer’s hard drive during periods of intense work.

Add two search paths in AVIX, the first one pointing to the computer's hard drive and the second one to the network location. AVIX will first try playing the movie from the hard drive, thereby avoiding network issues. If the video for some reason is not available on the hard drive, it will be played from the network instead, and thus be played anyway (with possible decreased performance).

What should I do if video playback is not smooth? (Video cache)

Running the 64-bit version of AVIX, you can also try enabling “cache videos locally” in the AVIX settings. Instead of loading the whole video at once, AVIX will only load the videos partially when needed (i.e., selecting a task) and thereby limit the load on the network. Note, this will only affect videos saved to a network, and not on a local hard drive.

Who do I contact if I need technical support?

You can contact the AVIX support team through your normal support channel, partner contact, or customer portal depending on your agreement and setup. You can also send an email to support@solme.se.

What are the basic system requirements to run AVIX?
