AVIX ARTICLES

From Spreadsheets to Smart Solutions

As a Process Engineering Manager at SSI Technologies in the Czech Republic, Hynek Zeman works closely with production teams to ensure efficiency and standardization. For years, work instructions were managed using Excel and printed documents – a process that left room for errors. Instructions were often outdated, difficult to read, and inconsistent across different workstations.

The biggest issue was maintaining accuracy and clarity. Creating work instructions in Excel was time-consuming, as engineers spent more time formatting than actually writing instructions. Training new employees was also a challenge, as text-heavy instructions were difficult to interpret, increasing the risk of mistakes.

“Writing the instructions used to be only 10% of the work—90% was spent formatting and fixing layout issues. It was frustrating and inefficient.” – Hynek Zeman, Process Engineering Manager, SSI Technologies

But in 2019, Hynek and his team introduced AVIX to streamline their processes. One of the biggest changes came with AVIX Shop Floor Viewer, which replaced printed instructions with instantly accessible digital versions. Operators could now access the latest, approved instructions directly on their screens, eliminating the confusion caused by outdated documents.

AVIX also helped standardize instructions with structured templates, ensuring consistency across the entire production floor. Another game-changer was AVIX’s ability to integrate video into work instructions. Instead of relying solely on text, engineers could now record and embed step-by-step visual guides, making it easier for operators to follow instructions correctly. “We are in the video age now. Instead of relying on long paragraphs, we can show employees exactly what they need to do. It makes training so much more effective.” Hynek explains.

The adoption of AVIX has transformed the way SSI Technologies manages its work instructions, leading to significant improvements in efficiency and clarity. Key results include:

Streamlined instruction access – Operators can now access the latest digital work instructions instantly, reducing confusion and errors.

Enhanced training effectiveness – The integration of videos in instructions has accelerated onboarding and made training more intuitive for new employees.

Standardized documentation – Consistent templates and formats across the board ensure that all instructions are clear and easy to follow.

Reduced update times – Engineers can quickly revise and publish updated instructions, ensuring that only the most current information is available on the production floor.

Hynek highlights the value of digital tools, emphasizing standardization and visual learning. Consistent formats reduce confusion, while video instructions boost understanding and speed up onboarding. By focusing on content, not formatting, engineers can create clearer, more useful instructions.

With AVIX, SSI Technologies isn’t just keeping up with digitalization – they’re leading it.
